Florida Georgia Line are among the most popular country music acts currently working, which is why they won three straight CMA Awards for Vocal Duo of the Year (2013-2015). So it was a surprise in 2016 when they were upset in the category by Brothers Osborne. They go head-to-head again this year, so who has the advantage in this rematch?
As of this writing Florida Georgia Line get leading odds of 21/20 to claim their fourth title. That includes support from 17 of our Top 24 Users, who got the highest scores predicting last year’s CMAs. They’re also backed by 15 of our All-Star Top 24, who got the highest scores when you combine CMA predictions from the last two years. But Florida Georgia Line didn’t earn any other nominations this year despite a relatively recent album (“Dig Your Roots,” which dropped in August 2016) and a high-profile single, “God, Your Mama, and Me,” featuring the Backstreet Boys.
Brothers Osborne are second in our predictions with 12/5 odds, including support from six of our Top 24 Users and seven of our All-Stars, so don’t count them out. Their debut album, “Pawn Shop,” came out almost two years ago (January 2016), but they did manage an additional CMA nomination this year for Music Video of the Year (“It Ain’t My Fault”), which is significant in a category where they are the only contender with any other nomination. And we know their 2016 CMAs victory wasn’t a fluke, because they followed that up a few months later by also winning the 2017 ACM Award for Vocal Duo of the Year.
Do you agree with our predictions that Florida Georgia Line will make a comeback, or will Brothers Osborne continue their winning streak?
