“Death is the enemy — the first enemy and the last,” says Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) in the preview for episode six of “Game of Thrones,” which airs next Sunday night, August 20 (watch above). “The enemy always wins, and we still need to fight him.” To be fair, though, the enemy never wins against Beric, who has died and been resurrected many times by the Lord of Light. And as we know Jon Snow (Kit Harington) has been resurrected once by the Lord of Light too. This death thing may not be so tough to beat after all.
“Winter is here,” the preview announces, and it’s been a long time coming. The threats of winter and from the White Walkers in the north have haunted the show since the very first episode — which, not for nothing, was titled “Winter is Coming.” And now we see an unlikely coalition including Jon, Beric, royal bastard Gendry Baratheon (Joe Dempsei), the Hound (Rory McCann), Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), and Tormund (Kristofer Hivju) beyond the wall in a mission to capture a wight to prove to dueling queens Cersei (Lena Headey) and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) that the mythical White Walkers are very much real. As satisfying as a final face-off between Cersei and Dany would be, wouldn’t it be even more thrilling to watch them join forces against the army of the dead?
Jon Snow last battled the White Walkers in the epic episode “Hardhome,” but this preview suggests “Even Harderhome.” Will the King of the North and his ragtag group get out alive and prove they were right all along?
