Game of Thrones” Season 7 premieres July 16 on HBO. And below, see our synopses for the show’s 12 most important characters:

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) — The youngest daughter of Winterfell’s Lord Eddard and Catelyn Stark, Arya has spent the last several seasons on her own trying to get back to her last remaining family members. She was last seen murdering Walder Frey, the man who killed her mother and brother.

Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) — Bran was just a child when he was pushed from a tower window by Jaime Lannister. After losing the use of legs Bran begins to have dreams of the three-eyed raven and realizes his ability to take over the consciousness of his dire wolf Summer. Bran travels north of the wall where discovers the truth of the past.

Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) — Loyal follower of Renly Baratheon and Catelyn Stark, Brienne battles her way through Westeros in search of Sansa Stark, finding her at the end of Season 6. During her travels, she unwillingly takes on a squire, Podrick Payne.

Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) — After King Robert Baratheon’s death Cersei Lannister spends several seasons devising plans to become the ruler of Westeros. After the death of all three of her children Cersei may have now locked down her position as Queen.

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) — Khaleesi Daenerys Targaryen has spent most her time building an army to take back what is rightfully hers. In Season 7 she hopes to return to Westeros along with her dragons and loyal followers to try and claim the throne and become the true queen.

Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) — A member of the king’s guard and lover to his twin sister Cersei, Jaime Lannister starts off as a ruthless killer. After traveling around Westeros on different errands and losing his hand Jaime finally starts to learn something about humanity and compassion.

Jon Snow (Kit Harington) — Jon Snow, bastard son of the lord of Winterfell and a watcher of the Wall, deceives the wildlings and leads them to their demise. Certain members of the Night’s Watch see this as a betrayal and arrange for his untimely death. He is then brought back to life by The Red Woman in Season 6.

Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (Aidan Gillen) — During the show’s six years it is revealed that Peytr Baelish, nicknamed “Littlefinger,” has had a hand in many the main plot lines, including rescuing Sansa Stark, framing Tyrion Lannister and the deaths of King Joffery Baratheon and Lord Jon Arryn.

Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) — Eldest daughter of the Stark family, Sansa has been betrothed to several unfavorable characters during the show’s first six seasons before finally escaping with the help of Theon Greyjoy and reuniting with her half-brother Jon Snow.

Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) — Theon Greyjoy, the only son of Balon Greyjoy, betrays the Stark family in attempt to win his father’s respect. He becomes imprisoned and tortured by Ramsay Bolton who gives him the new name of Reek. Theon eventually escapes and returns to the Iron Islands to find out his father has died in his absence.

Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) — Tormund Giantsbane is a wildling raider who joins up with Jon Snow for the greater good. After falling in love with Brienne of Tarth he participates in the Battle of Winterfell, killing Lord Smalljon Umber.

Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) — After being blamed for the death of his mother and being deemed deformed, Tyrion leads a tough and mostly drunken life. After killing his father and fleeing King’s Landing he now finds himself in the service of Daenerys Targaryen.
