“Game of Thrones” is nearing the end. Season seven premieres on July 16, and the series will conclude after season eight, which begs the question: who will take the Iron Throne to rule Westeros? As of the season six finale last spring, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) ruled as queen following the suicide of her son, King Tommen. But that’s not who the cast of the show wants to see in power at the end. Entertainment Weekly asked the cast members of the show who should rule, and their answers may surprise you. Watch above.
“I think Sansa should rule Winterfell, and I think Jon Snow should get the Iron Throne,” says Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran Stark, but he immediately reverses course. “Actually no, scratch that. Flip that around. I think Sansa should get the Iron Throne, and I think Jon Snow should rule Winterfell.”
Even Jon Snow himself, Kit Harington, agrees. “Sansa should rule the Iron Throne. Arya should rule Winterfell.” But what would become of Jon? We learned in the season six finale that Snow actually has royal blood: it turns out he’s really the grandson of the Mad King, Aerys Targaryen, so he has a strong claim to rule the whole kingdom of Westeros, but Harington says, “I’d have Jon go back to the Wall,” where he served the Night’s Watch, defending the realm against threats from the north.
