The Golden Globes often like to spread the wealth, but two TV programs are expected to rule the roost when 2017 winners are announced on Sunday, January 8. The Netflix drama series “The Crown” and FX limited series “The People v. O.J. Simpson” are forecast to win three awards apiece. Taken together that’s more than half of the 11 awards being handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press for the best achievements in TV.
That’s according to our official odds, which are derived from the predictions of TV Experts, Gold Derby Editors who cover awards year-round, the Top 24 Users who got the top scores predicting last year’s Golden Globe TV winners, the All-Star Top 24 who got the highest scores when you combine the last two years’ Golden Globe results, and hundreds of total Users who make up the largest (and often savviest) bloc of predictors.
“The People v. O.J. Simpson” is the most nominated TV program of the year with five bids across four categories, and it’s expected to sweep the longform categories, taking Best TV Movie/Limited Series as well as lead-acting honors for Courtney B. Vance and Sarah Paulson, who are fresh off of Emmy wins for the same roles.
The only category “People v. O.J.” is expected to lose is the only one where it goes head-to-head with “The Crown”: Best TV Supporting Actor. That category combines performers from movies, limited series, drama series and comedy series, and “The Crown” is expected to prevail therefor John Lithgow‘s scene-stealing performance as Prime Minister Winston Churchill. “The Crown” has two other noms, and we think it’ll win those too: Best Drama Series and Best TV Drama Actress (Claire Foy).
Find out who else we’re betting on below. And there’s still time to make or edit your own predictions before the winners are announced on January 8.
