Last week’s “Grey’s Anatomy” episode, titled “Who Is He (And What Is He to You),” focused on Jesse Williams‘ Dr. Jackson Avery and now fans are clamoring for the popular actor to get some awards attention. “His performance is amazing,” say a whopping 85% of the readers who voted in our poll. They agree that Williams should finally reap an Emmy nomination for the episode that delved into the personal and professional struggles of the conflicted doctor. He’s been with ABC’s medical drama since 2009, so this sort of recognition is a long time coming.
Conversely, 11% of poll respondents declare that Williams does not deserve a nomination (and 4% say “maybe”). These haters believe that Emmy voters have simply moved on from the show, which may be true as it’s currently in the midst of airing Season 13. Indeed, the most recent “Grey’s Anatomy” cast member to win an Emmy was guest star Loretta Devine in 2011, while supporting actress Katherine Heigl was the first to prevail in 2007.
“Who Is He (And What Is He to You)” began with Jackson and April (Sarah Drew) traveling to Montana in order to perform a complicated vocal surgery on a child, but April soon discovered that Jackson had ulterior motives. Jackson’s real goal in Montana was to meet his biological father Robert Avery, portrayed by Oscar nominee Eric Roberts (“Runaway Train,” 1985). Perhaps Roberts will earn an Emmy bid for Best Drama Guest Actor?
