One Direction lead singer Harry Styles has been a staple on “The Late, Late Show” hosted by his pal James Corden all this week. The one-time boy band idol has just released his first solo effort, a self-titled disc that is poised to debut at the top of the charts. After making merry with Corden in the studio all week, Styles joined him for segment of “Carpool Karaoke” (watch above).
Corden renamed this edition #CarpoolHarryoke in honor of his passenger. Styles referenced his 2015 appearance on the show with his One Direction bandmates. Back then, he was relegated to the middle seat in the back. This time around, he delighted in sitting next to the driver.
Corden and Styles kicked off their set while seat-belted with “Sign Of The Times,” last month’s chart-topping first single from the “Harry Styles” album. Styles revealed that his mother was in tears when she listened to the album for the first time. Of the 10 tracks, her favorite was “Sweet Creature.” It didn’t take much convincing from Corden before the two were singing this song.
After a comic bit in which the two wore an increasingly odd mix of clothes, they did a little of the 2003 OutKast hit “Hey Ya!” before playing out some scenes from their favorite films — “Titanic” and “Notting Hill” — with Styles taking on the parts made famous by Kate Winslet and Julia Roberts. The ride ended with the two old friends crooning “Endless Love” to each other.
