Harry Styles will be the first One Direction member to win a Grammy, according to our readers

One Direction never earned a Grammy nomination, but now that the band is on hiatus, each and every one of its five former members is eligible for consideration in this year’s race as a solo artist, but not all members are created equal. We asked our readers which member of the band they thought had the best chance of winning a Grammy, and the results were clear: Harry Styles will be the first of the five to take home the gold. Scroll down to see the complete results.

Styles led our poll with 48% of the vote, and for good reason. He’s the only one of the five who has an entire album eligible for consideration this year — a self-titled collection from May that topped the Billboard chart and produced a top-five single, “Sign of the Times,” which earned two MTV Video Music Award bids. The album received solid reviews: 68 on MetaCritic, which is higher than last year’s nominee for Album of the Year “Purpose” by Justin Bieber. Also, Styles has gained additional artistic cred thanks to his role in the critically acclaimed war movie “Dunkirk.”

But watch out for Zayn Malik, who finished second with 29% of the vote. He left the band before its official hiatus, so he got a head start as a solo artist, releasing his debut album “Mind of Mine” in March 2016. He has yet to deliver a followup album, but during this Grammy eligibility period he released another big hit: “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” with Taylor Swift. Being paired with 10-time Grammy champ Swift certainly doesn’t hurt, and the pair already won a VMA for Best Collaboration.
