‘Hell’s Kitchen All Stars’ episode 4 recap: Too many risottos lead to a dramatic twist

It was a night of too many risottos on “Hell’s Kitchen All Stars.” Friday night’s installment of the Fox reality competition series ended with a dramatic twist from Chef Gordon Ramsay, as the Red Team saw its first victories while the Blue Team stumbled. Make your “Hell’s Kitchen: All Stars” predictions for a chance to top our famous leaderboards. Before we get to the cooking part of the show, can we just take a minute to talk about how bad Van Hurd is at flirting? While in the break room, he approaches fellow contestants Elise Harris and Barbie Marshall with the hubba-hubba come-on line, “How are my Nubian princesses?” Yikes.

The first cooking challenge involved a combination of showmanship and chance as the chefs were tasked with creating original dishes from a random assortment of ingredients. To put it briefly, each team had to choose a food that began with a letter that popped up on a screen, then combine them into a meal. The Blue Team was stuck with Maraschino cherries, cauliflower, syrup, artichoke, portobello mushrooms, raisins, and bacon, while the Red Team had to work with mushrooms, cantaloupe, snap peas, asparagus, peanut butter, rice, and blueberries. Though it may sound impossible to create a tasty dish from such a hodgepodge of flavors, the competition was so close that the Red Team won by only one point.

To celebrate their victory, the Red Team spent the night at a Santa Barbara resort while the Blue Team was forced to take out the trash. It was all uphill for the ladies and downhill for the men from there. During dinner service, Josh Trovato struggled to keep his focus. Tasked with cooking two risotto dishes, he accidentally prepared six, breaking Chef Ramsay’s golden rule to never, ever waste food. His head in the clouds, Ramsay threw Josh’s watch into the fire before sending him into the dining area to eat three more extra risotto dishes with Playboy Playmate Shannon Tweed (some punishment, right?).

Meanwhile, after two consecutive victories for the Blue Team, Giovanni Filippone flew too close to the sun and burned his pork chops. He and Josh were nominated for elimination, but Chef Ramsay decided to send no one home. Instead, he sent Josh to the Red Team and Robyn Almodovar to the Blue Team, hoping to light some fire under these two slackers’ asses.
