‘Lunchtime is Coming’! Hodor actor Kristian Nairn reprises ‘Game of Thrones’ role in new KFC commercial [WATCH]

While we likely won’t be seeing Kristian Nairn‘s dearly departed Hodor in the upcoming seventh season of “Game of Thrones” (which debuts July 16 on HBO), Nairn does reprise his fan-favorite role in a brand new television commercial for KFC UK and Ireland. Watch the commercial above.

In a spoof of Hodor’s death scene from last season’s episode “The Door,” Nairn repeats the same phrase over and over again in the new TV spot with dramatic results. In “Game of Thrones” he repeatedly says “Hold the Door” until it becomes his name “Hodor,” while in the KFC ad he mimics “Chicken with Fries” until it sounds like “Chicken with Rice.” The final tag of the commercial reads, “Same great chicken. Just with rice instead of fries.”

Hodor’s death on “Game of Thrones” was one of the most emotional moments of the series so far. While the show has no qualms about killing off its characters, Hodor’s demise struck a nerve with many fans for the dramatic and time-bending way in which it happened. Kentucky Fried Chicken is smart for tapping into this newfound love for Hodor, as their TV ad is now trending worldwide.

The KFC commercial is titled “Lunchtime is Coming,” a play on the “Winter is Coming” tagline of HBO’s fantasy epic. While “Game of Thrones” currently holds the record for winning the most Emmy Awards for a scripted series at 38, it won’t be adding any trophies to its tally this year because it did not air within the eligibility period. But rest assured, the seventh season that premieres July 16 will be eligible at next year’s 2018 Emmys.
