The cast and crew of “The Americans” celebrated the FX show’s fifth season premiere on Saturday, February 25, in New York City at the DGA Theater. The new season hits the airwaves March 7, and it follows a recent awards breakthrough for the series. In 2016 the Cold War spy drama earned its first Emmy nomination for Best Drama Series. Actress Holly Taylor could get in on the action at the Emmys this year, especially since her character Page is finally getting in on the spy action on screen.
“Last season I would have thought there was no hope of her ever having an understanding of what her parents did or wrapping her head around it,” Taylor told Gold Derby on the red carpet about her character Paige learning that her parents (Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys) are really Soviet spies. “But I’m seeing a lot of growth in her, and in more ways than just that. I’m really happy with where the character is going … I never thought her character was actually going to go in that direction. It was just a dream of mine, so I’m so excited.”
Last season Paige continued to wrestle with the knowledge of her parents’ true identities and even compromised herself to protect their secret, manipulating her pastor and even bonding with the son of the FBI agent next door, Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), to protect her family. She even watched her mother kill a man in front of her and now may need to learn to defend herself against further threats.
