Issa Rae took to Instagram on Tuesday, March 14, to tease the upcoming second season of her comedy series “Insecure” on HBO (watch below). Says Rae, “Is Issa still single? No comment. Is Molly still single? No comment. Is Lawrence still fine? Yeah, duh, I’ll comment on that all day. When is season two of ‘Insecure’ premiering? Well I have an answer there! I need you to mark your calendar for July 23 because it’s about to get hot this summer.”
“Insecure” premiered on October 9, 2016, for its eight-episode first season. It was created by Rae and Emmy winner Larry Wilmore (“The Bernie Mac Show,” “The Nightly Show”) and stars Rae as a young woman who works for a non-profit organization benefiting middle-school students. She and her best friend Molly (Yvonne Orji) balance their careers with their tricky love lives.
The critically acclaimed series earned Rae a Golden Globe nomination for Best TV Comedy Actress. Now she’s aiming for an Emmy, and the July 23 premiere date could give her a welcome boost. The summer premiere means that new episodes will be airing while the television academy is voting for the 2017 Emmy winners. So “tell your friends, tell your family, tell your enemies to watch ‘Insecure’ on HBO,” says Rae. “We’re coming back happier, stronger, better, doper than ever.”
