James Corden pulled off an upset over fellow Brit Adele at last year’s Emmys. A primetime edition of the Carpool Karaoke segment from his talker “The Late Late Show with James Corden” won Best Variety Special over, among others, a concert special from the Grammy-winning songbird. He also edged out Emmy favorite “The Kennedy Center Honors,” Beyonce’s “Lemonade” long-form video which went on to win a Grammy and a stand-up special from Amy Schumer.
On April 11, CBS confirmed that Corden will be back with another edition of “Carpool Karaoke” on Monday, May 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. With so many of these segments becoming viral hits in the past year, Corden has built even more buzz for this song-filled journey.
Indeed, in the announcement from the Tiffany network, these impressive viewing figures were touted. Ironically, the most viewed of the karaoke sessions is one with Adele; that has logged 154 million views. Overall, the show’s YouTube channel has 10 million subscribers and has racked up 2.5 billion total views since the show’s premiere on March 23, 2015.
