Jenna Elfman on why she couldn’t ‘say no’ to ABC’s ‘Imaginary Mary’ [WATCH]

During our recent webcam chat (watch above), Jenna Elfman reveals that before she was offered the leading role in ABC’s “Imaginary Mary,” she had made clear to her agents that she was done with network comedies. “My past few experiences have been rather unsettling in terms of network television,” she explains. “I was just kind of done.” Yet she couldn’t resist this story about a workaholic whose childhood imaginary friend (voiced by Rachel Dratch) resurfaces after she begins a relationship with a father of three. Stephen Schneider co-stars as her love interest, with Nicholas CoombeMatreya Scarrwener, and Erica Tremblay playing his precocious tots.

Part of what attracted her to the role of Alice was the fact that, “I get to have the dynamic of working with a CGI character, and not just working with one, but doing physical comedy, and I’m the only one who sees this character.” Add to that the talent behind the camera, including creators Adam F. GoldbergDavid Guarascio, and Patrick Osborne, and director/executive producer Shawn Levy, combined with ABC’s current track record with comedies, and the actress, “honestly couldn’t find a reason to say ‘no.'”

Elfman received three Emmy nominations as Best Comedy Actress for “Dharma and Greg” (1998, 1999, and 2000). She won a Golden Globe for the role in 1999 and competed again in 1998 and 2000. Check out our full interview above for more about her work on “Imaginary Mary.”
