2017 Emmys: Uproarious Comedy Actress and Actor debate with Pete Hammond and Tom O’Neil [WATCH]

Will the Emmy for Best Comedy Actress go to perennial champ Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”) again? Deadline’s Pete Hammond and Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil think they know — so watch their fun video slugfest above to find out.

“Is she just like the automatic winner now?” wonders O’Neil about Louis-Dreyfus, who has won the past five races in a row for “Veep,” tying Candice Bergen‘s record of five trophies for the same character (“Murphy Brown”) in this category. Who could possibly take her down this year?

Hammond reminds us that “Grace and Frankie” star “Lily Tomlin is a governor in the TV academy, she’s beloved there. It doesn’t matter what Lily Tomlin is in, she’s in the club.” And what about Allison Janney, who’s jumping up to lead for “Mom”? O’Neil smiles, “This is something Allison Janney did in her ‘West Wing’ days, where she went from supporting to lead and she won again.”

Moving over to the Best Comedy Actor discussion, Hammond remarks that Tambor could easily win a third consecutive trophy, noting, “This is a great role for him, people love him. He’s out and about, I see him everywhere shaking hands and things.”

However, O’Neil is predicting someone else to prevail. “Donald Glover has the cool show, it’s been sweeping the guilds, it did well at the Golden Globes,” he declares. “And if ‘Atlanta’ wins a top award anywhere it’s likely here.” Other potential winners could be the “Black-ish” pairing of Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, or the “I Love Dick” duo of Kevin Bacon and Kathryn Hahn.
