Katy Perry has been one of the most commercially successful music artists of the last decade, and she keeps breaking records. She has spent more consecutive weeks in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart than any other artist in history (69), she recently set a record as the first Twitter user to reach 100 million followers, and now her single “Roar” has given her additional bragging rights. It was just certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America with equivalent sales of more than 10 million song units. That makes it her third single to reach diamond status — more than any other artist in history.
“Roar” was released as a single back in August 2013, so it took nearly four years for the song to achieve its diamond success. The empowerment song also earned Perry Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance — though it should be noted that, despite Perry’s achievements, she still hasn’t won a Grammy despite 13 nominations, which ties her in eighth place for the most nominations without a win.
Perry’s two other songs to achieve diamond-certification were another empowerment anthem, “Firework” from 2010, and “Dark Horse” featuring Juicy J from 2013. And she might finally cross Grammy off her music-history bucket list next February thanks to the recent release of her latest album, “Witness,” which is her first new studio album in four years. But until then, diamond singles are a girl’s best friend.
