One of the main reasons to tune in to the Kids Choice Awards on Nickelodeon is to see your favorite stars get covered in slime. At this year’s 3oth anniversary edition, which took place at USC’s Galen Center on March 11, four of the top names in entertainment got gooey.
While Demi Lovato may have won five Teen Choice Awards, she got the ultimate honor from the Kids Choice Awards. This multi-talent appeared on Saturday’s show to tout the April 7 release of the animated film “Smurfs: The Lost Village, “in which she gives voice to Smurfette. The one-time Disney Channel star remains a kids TV favorite and the crowd loved it when Slimey Smurf interrupted her to let leash with the green goo.
Next in the firing line was funnyman Kevin Hart who bounded up on stage with his children to accept three Kids Choice Awards and be showered with glory. Instead, he ended up covered in goo. Hart played it all for laughs, smiling as he confessed, “I have waited my whole life to get slimed.”
Chris Pratt may have lost his two Kids Choice Awards bids in the past, but he won over this crowd when he got slimed in a pre-taped clip in which he was struggling to introduce Zoe Saldana from the control room. Pratt was up for Favorite Actor last year for “Jurassic World” but was bested by Will Ferrell (“Daddy’s Home”). And he contended for Favorite Action Star for his breakout role in 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” but lost to Liam Hemsworth for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.”
The stars of the upcoming “Power Rangers” movie (Becky G., RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery and Naomi Scott) turned the green slime loose onto the adoring audience.
And finally, John Cena, who had done a stand-out job as host of these awards, proved he deserved to be a winner as well when he let himself be slimed as the closer to the show. In saying his good nights, this WWE star made merry as he stood covered from head-to-toe in slime: “I have just turned into John Greena. Thank you Nickelodeon. Thank you Kids’ Choice. Tonight was incredible. I had the time of my life.”
