“I’ve never been nominated for anything before,” exclaims “This Is Us” star Mandy Moore, who was nominated for a Golden Globe this year for her role on the NBC hit drama series. “I honestly just had my fingers crossed and was hopeful for the show to get nominated.” Above, watch our complete Mandy Moore interview filmed on the red carpet at PaleyFest 2017.
Moore, who plays family matriarch Rebecca Pearson from her mid-20s to mid-60s, says she found out about her Golden Globe nomination over social media. “I remember I got a text from Milo Ventimiglia and he said ‘Congratulations’ and I was like ‘Wait! The show got nominated?!’ And then he didn’t write me back and I went on Twitter and that’s where I saw it, and I started shaking. It was bananas.”
Now Moore and her cast are gearing up to potentially break into the biggest of all TV awards, the Emmy Awards. Moore will look to capture a Best Drama Actress nomination, but she says she’s only focused on one thing. “Again, I would hope that the show gets recognized and acknowledged — that’s as far as it goes for me. Anything outside of that is mind-blowing to even think about.”
This season’s episode “The Big Day” was a standalone powerhouse episode for Rebecca and as we point out, it should be Moore’s Emmy submission should she earn a nomination. As Moore tells us how she hopes the rest of the cast will also get their own spotlight, one of her co-stars dips into our interview and agrees. Who is it? And what does Moore think about the upcoming Emmys? To find out, watch our full PaleyFest interview above.
