Watch out for Margot Robbie at the Golden Globes. That’s what our Experts are saying in the race for Best Film Comedy/Musical Actress. She’s a contender for her role as disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in the film “I, Tonya,” and she’s starting to climb up the ranks.
As of this writing there are 14 Expert film journalists making their Golden Globe picks. All of them are predicting Robbie for a nomination, and now four of them are forecasting a win: Edward Douglas, Matthew Jacobs (Huffington Post), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily), and Brian Truitt (USA Today). This would be the first Globe nomination for Robbie, who previously made a name for herself with “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Suicide Squad.” This year she can additionally be seen in “Goodbye Christopher Robin,” which could give her a boost with Globe voters who have seen both performances and admire her versatility.
But the other 10 Experts are still forecasting a victory for the frontrunner, Saoirse Ronan (“Lady Bird“): Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Joyce Eng (TV Guide), Tariq Khan (Fox News), Michael Musto (NewNowNext), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Kevin Polowy (Yahoo), Keith Simanton (IMDb), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Adnan Virk (ESPN), and Susan Wloszczyna (RogerEbert.com). Ronan has earned rave reviews for her performance as the title character, a teenager coming of age in the early 2000s. This would be her third Globe nomination, but her first in this category. And it would be her first victory in any race.
Do you agree with some of our Experts that Robbie can catch up with Ronan at the Golden Globes?
