Eleven-year-old dancer Merrick Hanna performed Tuesday night during the Quarterfinals 2 episode of “America’s Got Talent” 2017. This time around, Hanna danced to “Lost Boy” by Alec Benjamin. Unlike other dance acts, Hanna’s specialty is telling stories through robotic movements, and he even had one judge declaring that he’s been “overlooked” so far in this competition. Watch Merrick Hanna’s “Americas Got Talent” recap video above from NBC’s reality TV show.
Judge Howie Mandel raved that Hanna is “very original … I think that you are a great entertaining act for the entire family.” Mel B echoed his feelings by saying that Hanna is “just mesmerizing” and that “I sit here in awe of you.” And Heidi Klum said that she’s often stopped on the streets from “AGT” fans who say that love “the dancing robot boy,” adding that he’s left “an impression” on Season 12.
But the best praise of all came from Simon Cowell, who declared Hanna to be “the best act we’ve seen tonight.” As Hanna’s mouth shot open in surprise, Cowell explained, “Everything else I’ve seen before over the years. Good singers, dance groups, etc. You’ve got originality. I always feel it comes from your head. And the fact that you’re so young and so inventive and so creative makes you current. I think you’ve been overlooked so far, Merrick, in this competition.”
Do you agree with Cowell that Hanna has been overshadowed by some of the other Season 12 acts — notably all of those early Golden Buzzers? Let us know what you think of the 11-year-old dancer down in the comments section.
