Mindy Sterling (‘Con Man,’ ‘Secs and Execs’) on double Emmy nominations: ‘I wanted to yell and scream on the plane!’ [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

In our exclusive new interview (watch the video above), Mindy Sterling recalls finding out about her two Emmy nominations for Best Short Form Comedy or Drama Series Actress this year: “I was on an airplane. We landed, I turned my phone on and it went crazy. It started dinging and ringing. It was nuts. I started reading it and got very excited. I wanted to yell and scream on the plane but refrained! It was thrilling!” She adds that being nominated against herself “is a little bizarre. One Mindy might lose or both Mindys. And if I win, I’m going to have to have two separate lists of names and two different places to go with it.”

One of her nominations was for playing the sci-fi convention booker Bobbie in “Con Man.” She says her favorite part about playing Bobbie is “her outrageous behaviour. The fact that she would steal from anyone, she would lie, she will cheat, she will eat somebody’s basket of fruit or candies. She has no boundaries.” Sterling has herself attended conventions and says that “I love meeting people and taking pictures. Fans come all the way from places to see you and shake your hand. I know I get excited when I see someone I admire a lot. So I really enjoy them.”

Her other nomination is for “Secs and Execs” where she plays ‘sec’retary Shirla who is “very confident, smart and wise. She’s very content getting this job and pay check. She hears gossip and is always the one that brings it to the rest of the secretaries. She’s one step ahead and the mother of the group.” Sterling recalls that she was working as a secretary when she was given an ultimatum to choose between her office work and acting. “It was kind of a no-brainer. But I remember walking down that hallway after having to make that decision crying about how I’m going to make money. But you know what, it all kind of ended up working out.”
