So how did he do? Comedian and actor Adam Devine hosted the 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards, which were handed out on Sunday, May 7, at the Shrine Auditorium. He took a hands-on approach to his duties, appearing throughout the telecast for periodic comedy bits and interactions with the audience. But did he sink or swim? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
Devine opened the show in classic awards-show style with an ambitious production number. He donned full Beast attire for a “Beauty and the Beast”-themed musical bit that celebrated MTV’s first year awarding the best in TV alongside the best in film (watch above). He was joined on-stage by special guests including Chrissy Metz (“This is Us”), Hailee Steinfeld (“The Edge of Seventeen”) and Rebel Wilson (“Pitch Perfect”), who dodged flames as he pretended to torch the stage during a series of pratfall mishaps.
Later he changed into his “Spider-Man” pajamas to introduce “Spider-Man: Homecoming” stars Tom Holland and Zendaya. And he spent time in the audience for segments including one in which he bragged about how enlightened he was (“Adam Gets It”), then joined his “Workaholics” co-stars Anders Holm and Blake Anderson at their table, where they played a drinking game at his expense, taking a swig whenever Devine embarrassed himself — even Devine’s parents got it on that game.
When the show ended he took off his shirt excitedly and jumped onto a table. Were you as excited about his performance as he clearly was? Vote in our poll below, and find out who won all of the night’s awards here.
