Thirteen-year-old Millie Bobby Brown defeated the competition Sunday night to win Best Actor in a Show at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards (see full list of winners). Brown’s breakout role as Eleven on the 1980s-set Netflix drama had leading 9/10 odds to win the inaugural TV category, according to Gold Derby’s odds-makers. Emilia Clarke of HBO’s fantasy epic “Game of Thrones” came in second place to prevail with odds of 7/2. “Game of Thrones” is the most rewarded show in Emmy Awards history with 38 trophies, but MTV voters chose not to honor the six-year-old series despite nominations for Show of the Year and Best Tearjerker (Hodor’s Death).
Coming in next, also with 7/2 odds, was reigning Golden Globe winner Donald Glover from FX’s “Atlanta.” The recent Golden Globe champ and current Emmy hopeful, who creates, produces and writes the hip comedy, also contended for Show of the Year, while co-stars Brian Tyree Henry and Lakeith Stanfield were up for Best Duo.
NBC’s family drama “This Is Us” was represented in fourth place with singer-actress Mandy Moore (9/2 odds). The show had two other nominations as well with the MTV crowd: Show of the Year (which is lost to “Stranger Things”) and Best Tearjerker (which won for Jack and Randall’s karate scene).
Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays new baddie Negan on “The Walking Dead” and enjoyed 9/2 odds to prevail here. While Morgan lost this race for Best Actor in a Show, he prevailed as expected in the category tailor-made for him: Best Villain.
Rounding out the category in last place was Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”) with 5/1 odds. The inspirational actress won the Golden Globe for her CW comedy’s breakthrough first season and is a hit with the young crowd.
