Every year at Christmastime, I share my most precious present with you Derbyites: this recording of my dear, late dad crooning Bing Crosby‘s version of “White Christmas.” Dad does it a cappella and he does a bravura job in this recording below, just as he did for decades when he crooned to us as Yuletide rolled around.
No wonder: Bing was his hero, so dad took special care to nail every quiver of voice, every warble and high note. Frank O’Neil died last year just one day shy of his 92nd birthday and my family and I miss him hugely now as we gather in our longtime family home without him and mom, who we lost in 2003. But they are in our loving hearts now as we celebrate these holidays in the snowy landscape of Mentor, Ohio.
Yes, we have a white Christmas here again this year. Hurrah!
