“We should take this back to my place,” sings Niall Horan in the very first line of his new single “Slow Hands,” which he released on Thursday, May 4 (listen to it above). This new song comes not long after his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles debuted his own solo music, but this isn’t Horan’s first effort on his own. He previously released the platinum-selling song “This Town” last September.
“This Town” was a plaintive love ballad, but Horan takes a decidedly sexier approach on “Slow Hands,” singing about “sweat,” “dirty laundry” and “fingertips putting on a show.” Earlier this week he told Mikey Piff on Sirius XM Hits 1, “I wanted it to be a little bit cheeky with the lyric … I wrote this one, probably, in February. I just thought, ‘You know what? I’m missing a bit of grit. Something a bit more funky, something with a bit heavier bass.’ That’s what I set out to do.”
So now Horan has two singles out, but as of this writing the Irish singer-songwriter hasn’t announced a release date for a full album. Meanwhile, his fellow One Directioner Zayn released his solo debut album “Mind of Mine” in March 2016 and is working on his followup. And Styles’s self-titled solo album drops May 12.
