“We needed a miracle, and then we got one,” says Tilda Swinton in the new full trailer for the Netflix original film “Okja,” “This beautiful and special little creature will be a revolution in the livestock industry … and most importantly, they need to taste f*cking good.” Watch the complete trailer above.
“Okja” tells the story of young Mija (Ahn Seo-hyun), who fights to stop Swinton’s powerful company from kidnapping her friend, a giant creature named Okja. An earlier teaser trailer gave us only a slight glimpse of the actual creature, but the full trailer shows the “super pig” in all its glory. The film is directed by famed Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, who previously directed Swinton in the acclaimed futuristic thriller “Snowpiercer.” The trailer also gives us a closer look at co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Giancarlo Esposito and Steven Yeun.
The film was officially selected to compete at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, where it has already caused a stir. Should streaming-only films like “Okja,” which premieres exclusively on Netflix on June 28, be allowed in competition alongside traditional theatrical releases? No they shouldn’t, the festival recently announced. While “Okja” and another Netflix project, Noah Baumbach‘s “The Meyerowitz Stories,” will be allowed to stay in the festival lineup this year, no future films will be allowed to compete unless they are also released in French theaters.
In addition to “Okja” and “Snowpiercer,” Bong is also known for another monster movie, “The Host” (2006), as well as the award-winning crime film “Mother” (2009). Are you excited for the new film?
