“Outlander” Season 3, due out in September, is based on “Voyager,” the third book in the series by Diana Gabaldon. While fans can expect a fun sea voyage by Claire and Jamie (stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have already released a set photo), one thing we shouldn’t expect is Gabaldon to pop up in a cameo as she did back in the first season. “I’ve never had an acting bug,” she confirms on Twitter, effectively shooting down any future appearances on the Starz megahit. “They asked me to do the cameo in Season One, to entertain you guys.”
I’ve never _had_ an acting bug. They asked me to do the cameo in Season One, to entertain you guys. ???? https://t.co/73oR3QtiNI

Back in the Season 1 episode “The Gathering,” her brief cameo as wealthy merchant’s wife Iona MacTavish excited fans worldwide. The part was written specifically for the author and the costume department even created an elegant dress for her quick role.
“I don’t normally dress like this, as you may suppose,” Gabaldon noted in the Starz featurette about her Season 1 cameo (watch below). “I’m in costume for my one and probably only artistic debut as an actor. I have two whole lines, which I said with a very correct Scottish accent, I assure you.”
As you may know, the reason for the extra-long 14-month gap between “Outlander” Seasons 2 and 3 is because the TV show is shifting production locations from Scotland to South Africa.
