In “Heaven and Earth,” the tenth episode of season three of the Starz hit drama “Outlander,” Claire (Caitriona Balfe) races to discover the source of an epidemic aboard a disease-stricken ship before hundreds of sailors die. Jamie (Sam Heughan) locks horns with the ship’s captain, Fergus (César Domboy), and finds himself torn between loyalty and love. The episode was written by Luke Schelhaas and directed by David Moore.
In our ongoing video series, “Outlander” fans Rob Licuria and Amanda Spears dish the highs and lows of this chapter of the fantasy romance saga. This season is based on “Voyager,” Diana Gabaldon’s third novel in the series of books (watch above).
“Claire is back once again in control of a situation,” Licuria declares. “She is a woman who does not sit back. A modern woman, which is what we love about her most,” he says. “It was cool to see Claire in doctor mode,” Spears agrees.
While Licuria and Spears were happy to see Claire grow as a character, they both agreed that the the show is treading water (no pun intended) and were looking forward to the show moving forward. “For me these are more like chess piece episode,” Licuria says. “It’s not so much about the relationship between these two lovebirds that is driving the whole narrative but more about moving the story forward and all these little cogs of the different storylines … I miss seeing more of their relationship, because that’s what I find most interesting.”
