‘Outlander’ episode 3.5 video recap: In ‘Freedom and Whiskey,’ Claire reunites with Jamie in 18th century Scotland [WATCH]

“Freedom and Whiskey,” the fifth episode of season three of the Starz hit drama “Outlander,”  was written by Toni Graphia and directed by Brendan Maher. “Outlander” fan Rob Licuria joined by Amanda Spears to dish the highs and lows of this chapter of the fantasy romance saga (watch above).

Claire (Caitriona Balfe) helps Brianna (Sophie Skelton) grapple with the life-changing revelations about her 18th century Highlander father. Roger (Richard Rankin) ultimately brings news that forces Claire to make the difficult decision to leave her daughter in 1960s Scotland and travel back in time to reunite with her true love Jamie (Sam Heughan). The episode ends with Claire entering Jamie’s print shop, and his stunned reaction as he realizes that his soul mate  is inexplicably back in his life.

This season is based on “Voyager,” Diana Gabaldon’s third novel in the series of books. The episode is sure to be a highlight for fans, who have waited so long for the anticipated reunion between Claire and Jamie, which is teased right at the end of the episode.

DISCUSS ‘Outlander’ with Hollywood insiders in our notorious forums

“It looks like we’re getting that reunion! It’s pretty much happening!” Licuria proclaims to open up the lively discussion. Spears was equally excited, noting that the build up to the big moment at the end of the episode was well worth it. “She didn’t just pop in on him,” Spears notes. “She travelled back in time, figured out where he was, and then popped in.”

“I kept asking the question, out loud, why can’t Brianna just go through the stones with Claire? Now, there’s answers to that question, I just don‘t know what they are,” Licuria asks. Spears agrees that this was an aspect that could have been better explained for those fans that have not read the books. “I kept thinking, would a parent choose their spouse that they haven’t seen in 20 years, or choose their child who is right there with them?”
