“Is this real? Are we really in a spaceship right now?” asks one incredulous teen in a new extended clip from the upcoming “Power Rangers” movie (watch above). “Power Rangers” opens on March 24, adapting the long-running children’s TV series that started in 1993 — before most of its stars were even born. Lionsgate has released a new extended clip from the new film, in which the five title characters have a close encounter with the robot Alpha 5 aboard an alien spacecraft.
The new Rangers are played by a fresh-faced group of young actors who include Becky G. (“Empire”), Naomi Scott (“Terra Nova”), Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things”), Ludi Lin (“Marco Polo”) and RJ Cyler (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”). But they will be surrounded by acting vets, including Bill Hader, who provides the voice of Alpha 5; Elizabeth Banks as the evil Rita Repulsa; and Bryan Cranston as the Power Rangers’ mentor Zordon.
But this isn’t Cranston’s first encounter with the Rangers. He actually voiced two monsters in the original “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” series in 1993: Snizard and Twinman. That was just a couple of decades before he became an Oscar nominated and six-time Emmy winning actor, of course — everything comes full circle.
