While we are only one week into the new season of “Project Runway,” there is already a clear frontrunner to win: Deyonte Weather. His designs for the episode 1 fashion show were hailed for their flair by the panel: Zac Posen and Nina Garcia and guest judge Olivia Munn.
And Weather proved equally at ease away from the drawing board as he chatted with the Emmy-winning hosts of “Project Runway” Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn. He characterized his design strengths as the abilities to work well under pressure and to design for every shape. As for his design weaknesses, he conceded that he can sometimes overthink things and can be too self-critical.
This 36-year-old talent from Lynnwood, WA also won over our readers, racking up an impressive 26% of the vote in our poll as to the likeliest winner of season 16 of “Project Runway.” Do you have a favorite yet among the designers? Be sure to vote in our poll below and sound off in the comments section.
Whichever of the remaining 15 contestants ends up as the last one standing, the haul is quite hefty, including $100,000 to launch their line, and the opportunity to collaborate with JCPenney on a limited edition capsule collection as part of the “Project Runway” line.
In addition, the winner will receive a new 2018 Lexus NX; a selection of Brother sewing and embroidery machines, with a retail value of $40,000; a lifetime supply of pens from the Pilot FriXion Erasable Pen; an all-expense paid luxury trip to Japan, including a 5-star stay near Japan’s fashion center; and a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
