‘Project Runway’: Did Deyonte Weather deserve to be eliminated in ‘We’re Sleeping Wear?’ [POLL]

In every episode of “Project Runway,” Heidi Klum explains the fickle nature of fashion by saying, “One day you’re in, and the next you’re out.” Nowhere was that more painfully felt than in Deyonte Weather‘s surprise elimination in episode four, “We’re Sleeping Wear?” He actually won the very first design challenge of the season in the premiere episode “One Size Does Not Fit All,” but after two straight weeks of disappointing, unflattering designs, they eliminated the promising designer. Do you agree with the judges’ choice? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.

“First of all, it doesn’t even look like something to sleep or lounge in,” said judge Nina Garcia about Weather’s design. “It feels restrained, and the shape is so … I don’t know.” She went on to describe it as a “boring” “hospital gown.” Zac Posen agreed, “This didn’t do it for me.” Heidi Klum didn’t see any sex appeal in the design. And guest judge Demi Lovato took issue with the unflattering elastic waistband.

But it seemed to be a close call. Weather was joined in the bottom three by Kenya Freeman and Aaron Myers. “I was really loving the print that you were making,” Klum told Myers, “but what you did with it was so surprising” — and not in a good way.

The judges were shocked by Freeman’s poor design because of how impressed they have been with her in previous challenges, so they gave her the benefit of the doubt. “I know what a good designer you are, and that’s not really you,” said Klum. Posen complimented her color palette. And Garcia admired her for not taking “the easy way out.” Freeman was declared safe despite this week’s disappointing design, but as Weather showed us, the judges might not be so gracious to her the next time around.
