For the third week in a row, Gold Derby users are predicting “Project Runway” contestant Shawn Buitendorp will be eliminated from the competition, but is that wishful thinking? She got off to a rough start, receiving one of the lowest scores in the season premiere, “One Size Does Not Fit All,” and then ending up on the losing team in the second episode, “An Unconventional Recycling.” All the while she has gotten the side-eye from her fellow rival designers for her constant collaborations with her twin sister, Claire Buitendorp, which may have helped her get a high score in last week’s episode “We’re Sleeping Wear?” But do the twins have an unfair advantage if they’re constantly working together?
As of this writing Shawn gets leading odds of 11/10, which translates to a 48% chance of elimination, despite getting one of last week’s high scores. Perhaps that’s because when we polled our readers last week 90% said it’s time for her to be eliminated, with only 2% eager for her to remain in the competition.
If Shawn is safer than we think, who could be out instead? Ranked second in our predictions is Aaron Myers with 5/2 odds (29% chance of elimination). Myers narrowly escaped elimination in last week’s sleepwear challenge. That was his first time getting a low score this season after being on the winning team in “Unconventional Recycling.” But as we saw with Deyonte Weather, who won the season’s first challenge only to be eliminated last week, the judges are only willing to give so many second chances.
Samantha Rei might also be at risk. She gets 10/1 odds (9.5% chance of elimination) despite the fact that she has excelled in the competition. The only time she scored low was when she was on the losing team for “Unconventional Recycling,” but hers was actually the look that got the most praise from the judges in that ignoble group. However, she has yet to receive a high score this season, so the judges may not spare her if she has a misstep tonight.
