‘Project Runway’ elimination predictions: Claire Buitendorp could go home before her sister

In the first few weeks of “Project Runway” season 16 it seemed as though Shawn Buitendorp was constantly on the verge of elimination. She was one of the bottom designers in episode one, “One Size Does Not Fit All,” and she was on the losing team during a contentious challenge in “An Unconventional Recycling.” Even after rebounding in recent weeks — she had one of the best designs in “We’re Sleeping Wear?” — she often seems to be in a mad dash to finish her work on time. This week, however, we think her twin sister Claire Buitendorp is the contestant most likely to be eliminated.

As of this writing, Claire leads our predictions with odds of 5/4, which translates to a 44% chance of elimination. She has been one of the judges’ bottom three designers twice already this season, first in the team challenge with her sister in “Unconventional Recycling,” and then again in last week’s episode “Descending Into Good and Evil,” in which she disagreed with the judges on what they thought was an unimaginative interpretation of a princess dress. Tonight’s episode is an opportunity for her to redeem herself, but in the last two weeks we’ve seen contestants go from a low score one week to out the next — Deyonte Weather in “We’re Sleeping Wear?” and then Aaron Myers in “Descending.”

If it’s not Claire who’s eliminated, our readers aren’t sure who’s the next most likely. Behind her in the firing line are Shawn and Samantha Rei, both with 9/2 odds (18% chance of elimination). Rei finished in the bottom three last week, though the judges seem generally fond of her; like Claire this was her second time scoring low, following their team challenge loss in “Recycling.”
