The standards for who will stay and who will go on “Project Runway” have changed drastically in just one week. A whopping three designers were sent packing in episode nine, “A Little Avant Garde“: Claire Buitendorp, who was disqualified at the start of the episode for breaking the rules, and then Amy Bond and Batani-Khalfani, whose runway looks were so disappointing that the judges sent both of them home instead of just one. That cut the competition by a third, leaving just six. It has become so cutthroat that now our readers think former frontrunner Kenya Freeman will be the next to go.
As of this writing Freeman gets leading odds of 7/5, which translates to a 42% chance of elimination. This is despite the fact that she remains one of the most consistent designers in the competition, having received high scores in five out of the nine previous design challenges (more high scores than any other contestant except Brandon Kee) and getting low scores only twice. However, she still hasn’t won a design challenge, which makes her the only designer in the top six without a win. Might the judges credit her for her consistency if she gets another low score, or will they hold her lack of a win against her?
Ranked second in our predictions is Ayana Ife with 10/3 odds, or a 24% chance of elimination. She won the week-two challenge, “An Unconventional Recycling,” and after that she coasted safely through the competition without a high score or a low score until her avant garde design put her back among the top scorers.
