‘Project Runway’: Was Michael Brambila right to protest Claire Buitendorp’s challenge win?

Even with only one Buitendorp sister present on “Project Runway” there was still plenty of drama. At the start of Thursday night’s episode, “Client on the Go,” Shawn Buitendorp volunteered for elimination rather than compete against her sister Claire Buitendorp in a sudden-death challenge to decide the elimination from last week’s challenge, “The Ultimate Faceoff.” But even after Shawn’s ouster Claire continued to be controversial.

This week’s challenge was to design an on-the-go look for a friend or family member of the “Project Runway” crew. But did Claire plagiarize her design? That’s what Margarita Alvarez thought, and her friend and co-competitor Michael Brambila echoed those feelings. Adding salt to that wound was the ultimate result of the challenge. Claire’s design was the winner, while Michael and Margarita ended up in the bottom three — Margarita was immune from elimination, though, since she won the previous challenge.

The announcement of Claire’s victory so infuriated Michael that he stormed off the runway, but the episode ended before the drama was resolved, so we don’t know what will happen. Michael and Batani-Khalfani were the two designers at risk of elimination due to Margarita’s immunity, but Michael’s protest complicates things. Will he withdraw? Will the judges reconsider their decision about Claire’s victory?
