‘Project Runway’: Did Michael Brambila deserve to be eliminated one week after winning a challenge?

When “Project Runway” host Heidi Klum says, “One day you’re in, and the next you’re out,” she’s not kidding. On Thursday night’s episode, “Driving Miss Unconventional,” the contestants were tasked with creating a look with unconventional safety materials. Michael Brambila took a risk with a sexy, kinky look with bungee cords, but it didn’t pay off. So the judges eliminated him even though he had just won the design challenge the previous week, which shows that no one can rest on their laurels at this stage of the competition. Do you agree with the judges choice? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.

“This is not one of my favorite looks,” said judge Nina Garcia. “It lacks drama … She looks like a backup dancer for a music video.” Guest judge Carly Chaikin (“Mr. Robot”) added, “To be very blunt, it’s very hooker-ish, looks a little tacky and cheap — yeah, I’m not a fan.” Heidi Klum thought the model looked “hot, but when you do compare your look to everyone else’s it looks like you didn’t work as hard.” Zac Posen liked the pop of blue and the texture, “and that’s about it … I’m pretty disappointed here.”

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for Brambila, who caused controversy in “Client on the Go” when he stormed off the runway in protest against Claire Buitendorp‘s challenge victory (that outburst ultimately led to Buitendorp’s disqualification). It looked for a moment like he might withdraw from the competition entirely, but he won the design challenge right after, “A Little Avant Garde.” Now, all of a sudden, even with two challenge victories under his belt, he’s out.
