In the latest episode of “Project Runway” season 16, “Descending Into Good and Evil,” Heidi Klum compared Brandon Kee‘s design to a straitjacket — and she loved it. His unusual look won him the design challenge, in which the 12 remaining designers were tasked with creating looks that were either good or evil as inspired by the Disney Channel movie “Descendants 2.” Kee’s “good” look was his second victory of the season, which cements his status as this season’s judges’ darling. But did his unique look really deserve to win? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
Joining him in the top three this week were two other judges’ favorites, both of whom presented “evil” designs. Michael Brambila, who won the design challenge last week in “We’re Sleeping Wear?,” was immune from elimination this week, but he didn’t rest on his laurels. He used black and gold lace to create a perfectly-fitted, voluptuous silhouette on his model. And Kenya Freeman, who struggled in the sleepwear challenge and was looking for redemption, came back in a big way with a tuxedo-inspired look with luxurious fabric and intricate details that judge Nina Garcia felt were perfectly “balanced.” But despite getting a high score three times this season, Freeman has yet to win a challenge. Is she overdue?
Brambila and Freeman both pushed the envelope, but their designs were somewhat more conventional than Kee’s adventurous experimentation. Did Kee’s originality warrant the victory? Or did you prefer Brambila, Freeman, or another designer who didn’t make the top three?
