Admit it: even though twin sisters Claire Buitendorp and Shawn Buitendorp left “Project Runway” in disgrace, they still made for great television. In fact, years from now Claire’s cheating scandal may be what Season 16 of Lifetime’s reality TV show is ultimately remembered for. And their unexpected head-to-head faceoff, in which a tearful Shawn decided to quit the competition so that her sister could remain, was another highlight. Thanks to the endless amount of entertainment the twins brought to “Project Runway,” do YOU think Lifetime should bring them back next season? Vote in our poll below.
There are six players still in the running to be named this season’s champion — Brandon Kee, Kentaro Kameyama, Margarita Alvarez, Michael Brambila, Kenya Freeman and Ayana Ife — but sadly the sisters are not among them. Sure, the twins may not have had the same level of talent as the designers in the Top 6, but the entertainment factor alone should convince Lifetime to bring back Claire and Shawn for another go-around.
Looking back through both of their short times on the show, Claire was in the bottom during four of the first seven challenges (that’s more than anyone else this season), while Shawn had two low showings and two high showings. While neither sister ever officially won a challenge, Claire did come in first place in the head-to-toe print challenge in Episode 9. However, that victory had to be nullified when it was revealed she cheated by using measuring tape at home, which broke one of the show’s long-standing rules.
