“It would be about the work, man,” says Ron Cephas Jones about what it would mean to receive an Emmy nomination for his role of William on NBC’s “This Is Us.” “The nomination would be about all the years of having your work and finally being recognized, you know? It would be wonderful.” Above, watch our complete Ron Cephas Jones interview filmed on the red carpet at PaleyFest 2017.
“It would be a tribute to all of the actors in New York,” continues the Best Drama Supporting Actor contender. “A lot of my friends who are still toiling and working hard who are great actors. For me, that’s what would it would be. It would be a testament to the work.”
“For the most part” Jones admits that he knew his role of William, the biological father of Sterling K. Brown‘s Randall, would be a one-season role, as his character succumbed to cancer near the end of Season 1. “I was hoping that wherever it went I would stay with it. But of course knowing that the character was terminal, I knew it was gonna end.”
Jones confirms, “I would go into work each day not knowing if my character was gonna die that day, until the episode before.” Since “This Is Us” likes to bounce around in different timelines, would Jones like to come back for some flashback scenes in Season 2? “Yes, absolutely!”
