“Saturday Night Live” just tweeted an announcement of the musical guests who will round out the show’s current 42nd season (check out the tweet at the bottom of this post). LCD Soundsystem will perform on the May 6 show hosted by Chris Pine, followed by Haim on May 13 (with Melissa McCarthy as host), and finally Katy Perry for the “SNL” season finale on May 20 (with Dwayne Johnson as host).
LCD Soundsystem is an EDM rock band that released three albums between 2005 and 2010, earning Grammy nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2006 (for their self-titled debut) and 2008 (for “Sound of Silver”). They disbanded in 2011, but reunited in 2015, and this year they will release their first new album in seven years.
Haim is a rock band consisting of lead vocalist Danielle Haim, her sisters Este Haim and Alana Haim, and drummer Dash Hutton. They released their debut studio album “Days Are Gone” in 2013 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2015. This will be their second time on “SNL” following their appearance as musical guests in November 2013.
Perry is even better acquainted with NBC’s late night sketch comedy. She was previously a musical guest in 2010 and 2013, and she even hosted the show in 2011. It’s been four years since her last album, “Prism” (2013), but last year she recorded “Rise” for the Summer Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, and she followed that up in 2017 with another new single, “Chained to the Rhythm.” A new album is forthcoming later this year.
