‘Saturday Night Live’ wins 4 more Emmys Sunday; extends mind-blowing Emmy series record for wins to 64

NBC’s long-running variety program “Saturday Night Live” won four more trophies at the primetime ceremony on Sunday night. It prevailed for both comedy supporting categories (Kate McKinnon, Alec Baldwin), variety directing (Don Roy King), and variety sketch series.

The show now has a mind-blowing 64 Emmy wins in its 42-year run, way ahead in the all-time record books for any series. The next closest series for the all-time marks held by  “Game of Thrones” (which is not eligible in 2017) with 38 and “Frasier” with 37.

Among the performing winners for “SNL” over the years, the list has included Baldwin, Dana Carvey, Dave Chappelle, Chevy Chase, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Melissa McCarthy, McKinnon, Amy Poehler, Gilda Radner, Justin Timberlake, and Betty White. Creator Lorne Michaels has now individually won nine Emmys for producing and writing the show (plus six more for “30 Rock” and non “SNL” variety specials) and was inducted into the TV Academy’s Hall of Fame in 1999.

In addition, the program has an overwhelming lead for the most primetime nominations for a series. It has received 243 compared to 124 for “E.R.” and 117 for “Cheers.”
