Wrong again, judges! We asked our readers to let us know who really gave the best performance in week two of “Dancing with the Stars.” In the second week of the competition, singer Normani Kordei and football player Rashad Jennings tied for the top judges’ score (32 out of 40), while gymnast Simone Biles finished in fourth place for the night (29 out of 40), but our readers say Biles was really the highlight of the evening.
In our recent poll, 24% of respondents said Biles gave the best performance in week two of the contest. She performed a cha cha with pro partner Sasha Farber. Bruno Tonioli thought it was “wonderful” and gave her an 8, but Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman thought her timing was a bit off, and Julianne Hough felt she lacked confidence — they gave her 7s. Clearly our readers disagreed with that assessment.
Ranked second in our polling was Kordei, who was our readers’ choice in week one. This time she received 20% of votes. She also performed a cha cha, and despite a hectic touring schedule that brought her and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy to Japan, she managed to be virtually flawless in the ballroom.
“Glee” actress Heather Morris finished third with 18%. Inaba, Hough and Tonioli loved her jive with substitute dancer Alan Bersten (her regular partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, was sidelined due to injury), but Goodman hated the hip-hop elements she added to it, bringing down her total score (30 out of 40).
Bull rider and model Bonner Bolton tied Biles in fourth place on the judges’ leaderboard (29 out of 40), and he’s also in fourth place in our poll with support from 9% of our readers. Once again Goodman was the naysayer, calling his Viennese waltz with partner Sharna Burgess “timid,” though Inaba thought it was “poetry in motion.”
Rounding out our top five was Jennings with 8% of the vote. It’s surprising that he didn’t rank higher in our poll given that he tied Kordei as the judges’ favorite of the night. Like Bolton he and his partner Emma Slater performed a Viennese waltz, and after two weeks of competition he’s currently the highest-scored competitor.
