‘SNL’: Should Alec Baldwin return as Donald Trump on Thursday’s ‘Weekend Update Summer Edition’? [POLL]

In the wake of TV’s late night hosts declaring that President Donald Trumpneeds to go” because of his apparent defense of white supremacists and neo-Nazies, fans of “Saturday Night Live” are wondering if we might soon hear from the man himself, in the form of Alec Baldwin. Do you think Baldwin should pop up as Trump on the next episode of “Weekend Update Summer Edition,” airing this Thursday on NBC? Let us know by voting in our poll below.

Baldwin of course is nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of the U.S. President in the race for Best Comedy Supporting Actor. His bid is just one of “SNL’s” impressive total of 22 Emmy nominations. Since Emmy voting is happening right now it’d be a yuuuuge missed opportunity for Baldwin to not treat “Weekend Update” as just another campaign stop. The popular actor already has two Emmys on his mantel as Best Comedy Actor for “30 Rock” (2008 and 2009), but this would be his first for “Saturday Night Live,” a show he’s hosted 17 times now.

“Weekend Update Summer Edition” stars Colin Jost and Michael Che at their normal news desk and serves as a bridge during the hiatus months between “SNL” seasons. In last week’s inaugural episode, the NBC show welcomed Trump players like Donald Trump Jr. (Mikey Day) and Eric Trump (Alex Moffat), as well as disgraced former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci (Bill Hader). So it only makes sense that Baldwin’s impersonation of Trump should pop up next.
