‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Lex Ishimoto ‘heading towards the finale’ with superb contemporary routine [WATCH]

Lex Ishimoto appears to be pulling away from the pack. On “So You Think You Can DanceTop 8 night he finally got to perform a routine in his own style: contemporary. That was bad news for his competitors because as comfortable as he has been dancing tap, tango, and Broadway, he was even more powerful in his comfort zone. In fact, judge Mary Murphy said, “You’re someone that’s headed towards the finale.” Watch his performance with all-star partner Gaby Diaz above, and vote in our poll at the bottom of this post to let us know if you think this was the best all-star duet of the evening.

Murphy added, “Inside your style, we knew coming in that you were going to annihilate this most likely, and you sure as heck did. It was phenomenal. Your strength, your balance, your leaps — how incredible!” Nigel Lythgoe also raved about Ishimoto and Diaz, saying, “It was stunning to watch. It just didn’t stop. Gaby, you must have thought you won the Powerball lottery when you got him. Whatever happens on this show, Lex, you are going to be a highly respected dancer. You are magnificent. Your lines look like they’ve been created by an architect.” And Vanessa Hudgens said, “You always blow me away. You’re such a phenomenal dancer.”

What did you think of Ishimoto’s performance? As of this week’s show he was the overwhelming favorite to win season 14 of “SYTYCD.” Is he looking every bit as strong to make the finale like Murphy says?
