‘Stranger Things’ Emmy submissions: Barb has been found! She joins Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder on ballot

Stranger Things'” Barb has been found … on the 2017 Emmy ballot, that is. Shannon Purser, the actress who portrays the missing student at the center of the internet-obsessed #justiceforbarb hashtag, has been submitted for Emmy consideration along with a slew of other performers and tech contenders. The entire “Stranger Things” cast recently won the SAG Award for Best Drama Ensemble, with Millie Bobby Brown and Winona Ryder getting individual SAG bids. How many nominations will the show earn on July 13? Scroll down to see all of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” Emmy submissions

The hit sci-fi series about the search for a missing boy in the 1980s has turned America — and awards groups — upside-down. Besides the SAG Ensemble triumph, the show’s producers also prevailed at the PGA Awards. Those two precursor victories make “Stranger Things” a frontrunner heading into the 2017 Emmys, with many of our expert journalists predicting the Netflix series will be nominated for Best Drama Series. The timing couldn’t be better, as two-time reigning champ “Game of Thrones” must sit out this cycle since it didn’t air within the eligibility period.

The Duffer brothers — Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer — appear on the Emmy ballot thrice: as producers of the show, as writers of the pilot, and as directors of the pilot. Co-producer Shawn Levy has also been submitted for directing the third episode. In our recent interview, the Duffer brothers told Gold Derby, “It was not a commercial play on our part at all. We said, let’s try to write this thing, let’s write what we want to see and at that time we were hoping that someone would be maybe interested in making it.”

While lead and supporting acting nominees don’t have to name a specific episode to submit to Emmy judges until after the nominations are announced, the guest performers’ episodes are listed on the ballot. Similarly, many of the show’s technical categories also designate which episodes will be judged by TV academy members. However, ballots are not available for music categories, since the voting process for those awards is different from most other races (more on that here).
