‘Stranger Things’ gets official season 3 renewal from Netflix but when will it return?

After bingeing on the second season of “Stranger Things” over Hallowe’en we were desperate for more of this throwback to the 1980s. On Dec. 1, Netflix officially confirmed that there will be a third season. Indeed, as per the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, there should eventually be four installments. However, they weren’t saying when we can expect to see more of the eerie goings-on in Hawkins, Indiana.

The second season was titled “Stranger Things 2,” in the vein of a film franchise than a continuation of a series. It premiered on Friday, October 27, and was one of the most highly anticipated premieres of the fall TV and streaming season. The sequel was certainly the equal of the original. “Stranger Things 2” merited a MetaCritic score of 78 and 92% freshness on Rotten Tomatoes.

The first season debuted in July 2016 to little advance notice but gradually built a passionate following through strong word-of-mouth. That led to a Golden Globe nomination for Best TV Drama Series, a SAG victory for Best TV Drama Ensemble, and five Emmy wins out of 18 nominations.
