Taylor Swift‘s upcoming sixth album, “Reputation,” isn’t released until November 10, but she has already released three singles from the new set: “Look What You Made Me Do,” “Ready for It,” and most recently “Gorgeous.” Fans still have a couple of weeks to wait for the whole collection, so in the meantime we asked which of the three new songs is her best, and it was a close class. Scroll down for the complete results.
“Look What You Made Me Do” was our readers’ favorite, but just barely. It led our poll with 38% of the vote, just a little more than one third, which means that respondents were almost equally divided between the three songs. “Look” was the lead single from the album and a controversial one at that. She appeared to be doubling down on her feud with Kanye West with lyrics like “I don’t like your little games / Don’t like your tilted stage / The role you made me play / Of the fool, no, I don’t like you,” and that made the song divisive.
But “Look” nevertheless reached number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, which made it the fifth chart-topper of her career. It spent three weeks there, during which time her followup, “Ready for It,” peaked at number-four. That second single had support from 31% of our readers, as did “Gorgeous,” which just dropped on October 20.
The “Reputation” album won’t be eligible for Grammys until 2019, since the eligibility period for this year’s awards ended on September 30, but Swift is nevertheless a strong contender for Record of the Year for “Look What You Made Me Do.” She’s among the top five likely nominees according to our latest predictions. It would be her fifth nomination in that category, following top bids for “You Belong with Me” (2010), “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (2013), “Shake it Off” (2015), and “Blank Space” (2016). But even though she has won Album of the Year twice — for “Fearless” in 2010 and “1989” in 2016 — she has yet to win Record of the Year even once.
