Jacob Staudenmaier is not your typical teen. Stuck for a prom date, this 17-year-old from Phoenix, AZ decided to ask Emma Stone, who hails from his hometown. To get the attention of this Oscar champ, he recreated “Another Day of Sun,” the iconic opening number from “La La Land.” (Take a look at his efforts below.)
In his low-budget version, he uses the parking lot of his high school rather than a freeway in Los Angeles to stage a traffic jam. And he co-opts some of his classmates to play his fellow commuters. Staudenmaier kept Justin Hurwitz’s catchy melody but substituted his own lyrics for those of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
“I need a date to prom,” he trills. “Jacob Staudenmaier is my name. Emma Stone if you came, I think I’d lose it, go insane.” From there, he makes his case for the actress, who is 11 years his senior, to take time to fly back to her former neck of the woods.
