‘The Bachelorette’ finale recap: Rachel choose a mate, and it’s not who you thought it would be

Well, that was unexpected. ABC’s reality dating program “The Bachelorette” wrapped up on August 7, and after months of eager anticipation, Rachel Lindsay has finally chosen a mate. Needless to say, it wasn’t  who we thought it would be.

Let’s just cut to the chase: she chose Bryan. That’s right, Bryan, who topped a recent poll where a whopping 57% of our readers begged Rachel NOT to pick him. How did the least popular contestant (OK, maybe not as unpopular as racist tweeter Lee and the Whaboom guy) end up in the arms of the most beloved bachelorette ever?

For starters, she had to narrow her picks down from three to two, and poor Eric was the first to go. Eric, who had never fallen in love with anyone until he met Rachel (really, though?) has been a bit of an also-ran for a few weeks now. Here’s hoping he finds a nice woman without millions of viewers watching his every move.

That leaves us with Bryan, who claims he devoutly loves Rachel after having known her all of three months, and Peter, who wants to take things a little slow once the cameras stop rolling. Honestly, Peter isn’t being unreasonable here, and our readers have consistently advocated on his behalf (with 43% choosing him as their personal pick in our last poll). Yet his reticence to propose immediately after the finale made Rachel have second thoughts, causing their fairy tale romance to come crashing down.

So now she’s engaged to Bryan, and it only took us three hours to get to that totally unsatisfactory conclusion. Here’s hoping she runs into Peter somewhere and comes to her senses, because by God, those two gap-toothed kids looks so darn cute together.
